Mohan Lal was born to father Viswanathan Nair and Mother Santhakumari in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala.He was on 21st May 1960.His full name is Mohanlal Viswanathan Nair. He is married to Suchitra, daughter of veteran Tamil actor-producer K. Balaji. The couple have two children, Pranav and Vismaya. He is currently settled in Chennai.

Mohanlal was awarded the Padma Shri by the Indian Government in 2001.
According to the data available the movi he acted was "Thiranottam" in 1978.But the movie never released because of the issues with Censor Board.His first movie which is released and was a hit in Kerala was 'Manjil Virinja Pookkal' in 1980. In that movie he did the role of a the antagonist.That was a classic villain role.
